Equipment Requirements

Getting on-line is quick and simple. All you need is a Wi-Fi enabled (802.11 b/g) laptop or PDA and an Air2Access account.

If your laptop does not have Wi-Fi built in, you can use a Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) PC card or USB device. These devices are available from Air2Access or at local retailers such as BestBuy, or CompUSA. If you need to purchase equipment, please click here, to see the hardware available at the Air2Access Store.

Connecting to the Air2Access Network

1. Turn on your Wi-Fi enabled (802.11 b or g) device such as a laptop or PDA. Ensure your wireless card or adapter is connected and enabled.

2. Make sure your SSID is set to: A2AWIFI
(This will likely happen automatically although you may need to select it from a list. If it is not automatic, click here for help configuring your wireless device).
(Some locations may still have MARINA WIFI as the SSID)

3. Launch your web browser, and a login screen should appear. (If your homepage comes up blank, type in any web address)

4. Enter your Air2Access username and login to connect or click on Sign Up for Service, choose a plan and follow the instructions on the screen.

Configuring your Wireless Device:

Wireless adapter settings are modified in the Windows Control Panel under "Network" (Windows 98), "Network and Dial Up Connection" (Windows 2000) or "My Network Places" (Windows XP).

The general settings are as follows:

Select your wireless connection:

> Set SSID to: A2AWIFI
> WEP key is NOT used
> Turn Encryption type to Disable or None
> Set WLAN type or mode to Infrastructure
> DHCP for wireless adapter should be ON
> Set TCP/IP properties on your wireless adpater to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically"

Once your settings have been entered you may need to reboot your computer.

For questions regarding the configuration of your specific wireless card, adapter or client utility please consult your manufacturer's guide).

To Log Out:
Close your connection, or type http://1.1.1.1 in your browser to terminate your connection.

Older laptops can use a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g pc card or USB client device. These devices are available at local retailers such as Best Buy, CompUSA, or from Air2Access. To purchase equipment, please click here. For a description of the different hardware types, see below.

Hardware Descriptions

Laptops/Notebooks
Your laptop should be equipped with a Wi-Fi 802.11 b or 802.11g card or Wi-Fi USB client device. Most laptops have a PC card slot on the side of your laptop where you insert a Wi-Fi card, install the software, and get connected. Another alternative is a USB client device that simply plugs into the USB port of your laptop. It's that easy.

PDA's
If you have a PDA with an integrated Wi-Fi card or external PCMCI sleeve with a Wi-Fi card you can also connect.
Once the wireless card and related software are installed, connecting to Air2Access is a breeze. An Air2Access login page will be displayed for new users or current subscribers.

Mobile Antennas
For boaters who wish to achieve a greater range from within your marina we also recommend mobile antennas; otherwise known as range extenders. These range extenders plug right into the Wi-Fi cards and will enhance your signal strength to give you a greater coverage area in the marina. To purchase equipment, please click here.
